ART CLASSES
Beginning Wheel Throwing
During this clay class, you’ll be introduced to the basic and important concepts of clay. Focus is placed on developing craftsmanship as well as an artistic style, while having fun and relaxing. Students will work at their own pace to learn how to center clay on the pottery wheel and begin to create functional and non-functional objects. All materials included.

Potter’s Workshop
Enjoy two hours of clay and wheel throwing as you work at your own pace and gain new skills through individual projects. Chris will guide you as you increase your talents to build functional items such as mugs, platters, and decorative bowls. Open to students who have had previous pottery experience. You are encouraged to explore personal expression through the creation of abstract and sculptural pieces as well

Beginning Drawing
Did you flunk high school art or did an art teacher suggest you might consider a career that didn’t require art talent to succeed? Please consider taking this class. You will learn the ins and outs of basic drawing and how to position your art work on paper. By the last class you will have developed hidden art talents you didn’t know you had.

Watercolor Painting with Intro to Pastels
While creating paintings, you’ll learn to set up your palette, learn about paints, paper and brushes, mix colors to create harmonious compositions, and learn to apply color in a variety of ways. Also soft colors on velour and spectrum paper make for beautiful pictures that you will learn to create. The instructor will work with the participants from teaching the basic art skills to the more advanced. Dee has coordinated a watercolor supply kit for you to purchase and own that includes watercolor paints & tray, brushes, paper, and backboard Also she has put together a pastel kit for you to purchase if you wish to do more on your own at home. Students may choose to purchase kits or use CEC materials. Open to adults over 18 years of age.

Advanced Open Art
Take your artistic side to a new level in this advanced class with Dee Boehmer. Project ideas flourish in this open forum as you’ll explore any medium you like: pastel, ink drawing, watercolor, mosaic, and more. Join us for a creative and encouraging learning atmosphere! Prerequisite: Dee’s beginning watercolor or beginning drawing. Materials not included. Open to adults over 18 years of age.

Oil Painting Landscape
This 6-week class is designed to create a beautiful oil landscapes that you will be proud to display. You will learn outdoor landscape techniques used by the Impressionists. The first class will be held at the CEC studio. Others will be held at Roberts Park and other area locations. These locations will give you great opportunities for wonderful creations of your own.

Oil Painting Portrait
This 6-week class is designed for both new and more experienced painters to create a portrait. An emphasis will be placed on oil painting technique. We will also explore preparing a suitable painting surface, brush handling, cleaning and maintenance and making marks with the brush. We will review color theory and learn to mix colors. We will study lighting effects and how to represent a variety of surfaces on the canvas. Each student will put all this together to create an original oil painting suitable for framing. Some materials are included in price. Students must purchase the oil paint kit or bring their own.

Think Spring, Think Flowers
Do you love flowers? Do you wish you could design a floral bouquet like a professional? Here is your chance, come and enjoy a bloomin’ fun class filled with all the new and fresh ideas of floral arranging. Bring a container from home and let’s fill it with spring flowers. Bead Jewelry Making Class
Design your own easy to make bracelets. Learn the simple technique of how to string beads of your choice onto elastic. There are hundreds of beads to choose from and no clasps necessary. You can make one for $10.00 and any additional bracelet for $5.00. All supplies are furnished for this fun activity.

Beginning Stained Glass

Mosaic Art Yard Ball
Learn techniques of placing many small pieces of glass on a form to make a design. Participants will learn how to design a piece of mosaic as well as work with grout and finish their art work. A form to use for the mosaic will be furnished. Must know how to cut glass or have taken stained glass class in the past. Must be eighteen to enroll.

Glass Fusing
The main focus of this glass fusing class will be the process of slumping. Students will slump a design using fiber paper and then using their own designed glass will slump into a small dish. We will be using the new ceramic/glass kiln at the CEC studio. No previous experience required. Due to safety issues you must be 18 to enroll. (Also due to preordering glass you must come to the CEC office to prepay and pick out the glass you would like to use by May 20th). You may not supply your own glass due to differences in glass.

Jewelry Making with Marilyn
In this 6-week class you can learn to fashion metal into jewelry and table size sculpture. You’ll learn the basic methods of metal work… sawing, filing, hammering and soldering. Once you learn these basic techniques, Marilyn can help you plan original designs. You can even choose to use beads with your metal, or bring your own silver to work with. If you already know the basic techniques, join the class and let your creativity flow! You do not need to go through the beginner exercises, but can work at your own pace. All tools and copper will be provided.

Beginning Computer Class
This 8-week class will help you develop basic computer skills and a working knowledge of computer files, the desktop, folders, the mouse, email, the Internet, and Microsoft Word. Students continually rank this class as excellent. “It has made me much more comfortable using a computer. The instructor was great!” “The instructor taught in language I could understand!!” If you barely know how to turn on a computer, then this class is for you.

Intermediate Computer Class
This 6-week class is a natural follow up to the CEC Beginning Computer Class. You will learn more about managing files and navigating through windows. You’ll work more with Microsoft Word and be introduced to Microsoft Excel. Microsoft Word
Microsoft Word can be an invaluable tool, but how many of us just taught ourselves? This class teaches the basics of Microsoft Word in a logical, easy way. You'll learn how to use spell and grammar checks, how to set tabs, margins, headers, and footers, how to use clipart, how to open and save documents, and how to print. Then you'll learn how to make announcements, letters, envelopes, newsletters, and much more!

Microsoft Excel
This 6-week class will cover the following spreadsheet basics for Excel: entering text and numbers, creating formulas, formatting, charting, graphing, using lists, and working with worksheets. Then you'll learn to summarize data, create a budget, build a database, start a checkbook register, and much more! Even if you use Excel already, you may find out it has uses and applications you've never thought of!

Children’s Classes
Building Buddies & Pals
Tomorrow’s engineers might have their roots in this class as we encourage young children to explore with DUPLO and LEGO building blocks. Children will create a different project each week using patterns, colors and shapes. There will be time for both structured activities and free time creative play. This class is for children ages 4 to 7. Parents and Grandparents are encouraged to stay and build with their youngsters!

Color mixing for children
This class is for children grades four thru six. Here the kids will be presented the color wheel and discuss color mixing combinations. Using only the primary colors, black, and white, individuals will create a painting of his or her own choice, practicing the color mixing skills addressed in the class. It will be held in Roberts Park for two hours.
This is a great opportunity for your child to express themselves in art.

Painting a Sunset for Children
This class is designed for grade school and middle school children. Here children will view various examples of sunsets and sunrises. Then after a demonstration by the instructor, the children will design their own sunset or sunrise on canvas board. During this two hour class kids will incorporate creativity, and enhance their appreciation of the visual arts. This will be held at Roberts Park.

In this class the term “landscape” will be addressed. The kids will view different examples of landscapes to get ideas. Painting Flowers for Children
In this class children will sketch out and paint floral still life’s focusing on composition and color. Flowers will be painted on canvas board using fast drying craft paint. This class is designed for grade school children, and will be held in Roberts Park.

Model Building
This program is designed for division 1 and 2 4-H model builders. Here the instructor will work with the kids and help them build a model that fits within the guidelines set by the 4-H project guide. You may bring your own model or let us know and we can purchase one for you. We can supply you with models for the cost of the item. We will supply glue, brushes and paints for the projects. If you just need a place to work or a little help from the instructor, division three 4-Her’s may take this class but must supply their own materials. You must pre register for this class due to ordering supplies. For more information please contact the CEC for details.

Leather Craft
This class is designed for division 1 and 2 in the 4-H program. Here you will be able to design a small piece of leather for your project. NON-PROFIT WORKSHOPS
The Community Education
Coalition in partnership with the Fayette County Foundation, are coordinating
several workshops this winter and spring to help our community’s non-profits
strengthen their teams! Whether you’re an office of 2 or an office of 20, this
series of non-profit workshops can benefit your overall organization. Learn
best practices for planning and conducting successful meetings and develop a
better understanding of motivations to serve. These workshops are intended for
both staff and board members of non-profit organizations to attend.
Meetings 1, 2, 3
Do you ever leave a meeting with nothing but the time and date of the next meeting? Do you find your day full of meetings that don’t help you get results? In fact, are meetings preventing you from achieving your goals? Effective meetings are a necessary component of organizational success. This workshop will help you have the right people in the right room for the right reasons and get the right results. You will experience enthusiasm and satisfaction in both the process and outcomes of your meetings.
