At the Community Education Coalition (CEC), our mission is simple:  we strive to create a community that values education and life-long learning.  In support of this, the CEC has adopted an innovative and creative model for learning that welcomes and encourages all citizens to participate in activities they see as fun and educational.  Over the past nine years we have been very successful offering “continuing education” type programming centered around art, science, technology, and life skills to every age group in our community.  Our classes inspire participants to be creative and learn a new skill in a relaxed, comfortable environment.

Programs vary from schedule to schedule, and include Art Classes in pottery, watercolor painting, jewelry making, stained glass, basket weaving and more; Arts Classes for Children of all ages focused on creative self-expression; Science Classes for youngsters enrolled in Head Start, and elementary age children enrolled in after school programs; Technology Classes on basic, intermediate, and advanced computer use and application;  Leadership Development for adults and youth;  Literacy Programs, in partnership with the school district, for “at risk” elementary students; and Summer Day Camps and Programs for youth focusing on art, music, and physical fitness.   In addition to our programs and classes, the CEC’s  Van GOgh Artsmobile and GO-lileo Sciencemobile take art and science projects to people of all ages, from preschool through senior citizens.  The CEC is based in Fayette County, IN but we welcome students from all areas.

All CEC programs and classes embrace three major goals:  (1) increase educational achievement; (2) promote creative thinking; (3) encourage life-long learning.  We seek to achieve these goals by focusing on cultural enrichment and engagement in creative activities, more learning opportunities that build basic life skills, and more applied experience with technology.  CEC’s leadership classes have broadened our “reach” into the community and have provided depth and substance to issues such as character, ethics, and integrity.  By broadening our scope with leadership training, the CEC helps strengthen our region by engaging our greatest asset—our people.

We recognize that measuring social change is not entirely possible; however stories from multiple individuals tell us that we are making a huge difference in our community… and that is the greatest accomplishment we can have.
